Faithful and worthy Mormons who desire to have an eternal family will have their marriage sealed “for time and eternity” in the temple. Since marriage is a requirement to reach exaltation, this temple ordinance is referred to as a celestial marriage. If both spouses are faithful to the covenants, then the sealing will continue for eternity. Children born after the sealing will automatically become part of an eternal family. If children were born before their parents’ sealing at the temple, then the ordinance of sealing children to parents can be performed. Worthy Mormons can carry out sealings vicariously in the temple on behalf of their ancestors.
