In Latter-day Saint belief, Adam is identified with Michael the Archangel, considered one of Heavenly Father’s greatest spirit children before coming to earth. He is regarded as the first man and the head of the human family. According to LDS teachings, Adam’s role was to bring mortality into the world, which he did through the Fall in the Garden of Eden. The Fall is not seen as a tragic mistake but as a necessary and ultimately positive event that allowed humanity to progress, have families, and seek eternal life. LDS scriptures often cited include 2 Nephi 2:22–25 and Moses 5:10–11. Also see: Fall of Adam.
