In Mormonism, Heavenly Mother is understood to be the wife of Heavenly Father and the literal mother of all human spirits. Latter-day Saints believe that every person was spiritually begotten by Heavenly Parents before being born on earth (Gospel Topics: “Mother in Heaven”).
Biblical Christianity teaches that God is spirit (John 4:24) and does not have a gendered, biological nature or a heavenly spouse. Though God reveals himself as Father and uses masculine titles, the Bible also uses maternal imagery to describe his compassion and care (Isaiah 66:13). Humans are male and female because they bear God’s image—not because they were spiritually begotten by heavenly parents. Through Christ, believers are adopted as God’s children and brought into his family by grace (Ephesians 1:3–5).
