Temple Garments

Temple garments, sometimes called “garments of the holy priesthood,” are special underclothing worn by adult members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who have received their temple endowment. They serve as a daily reminder of the sacred covenants made in the temple and symbolize purity, devotion, and protection.

Latter-day Saints are instructed to wear the garment at all times, except during activities such as bathing, swimming, or exercising. The garment is considered sacred, not secret, and is treated with great reverence. Members believe it serves as a constant reminder to live righteously and remain faithful to the covenants they have made. Some also believe the garment offers spiritual protection from temptation and evil.

Biblical Christianity teaches that believers do not wear special clothing to maintain God’s favor or protection. The righteousness that covers Christians is the perfect righteousness of Christ himself (Isaiah 61:10; Philippians 3:9). Instead of an external garment, the believer is clothed with Christ by faith (Galatians 3:27).
