A patriarchal blessing is a special blessing given by a stake patriarch to an individual member of the LDS Church. It is considered revelation from God, recorded in writing, and kept permanently by the church. Members may reread their blessing throughout life for guidance, comfort, and direction.
The blessing usually declares the member’s lineage in the house of Israel (most often identifying them as descendants of Ephraim or Manasseh). It may also contain promises about health, marriage, service, or exaltation, often tied to the member’s faithfulness and obedience.
