Moroni

In Mormonism, Moroni was the last of the Nephite prophets in the Book of Mormon. After compiling and finishing the record, he buried the golden plates in a hill in present-day New York. According to Joseph Smith, Moroni later appeared to him as a resurrected angel in 1823, directing him to the plates and guiding him in their translation.

Moroni is one of the most recognizable figures in LDS tradition. Statues of Moroni with a trumpet stand atop most Mormon temples, symbolizing the restoration of the gospel and the spreading of its message to the world.
