In Mormonism, the Millennium refers to the thousand-year reign of Jesus Christ on earth following his Second Coming. During this period, Satan will be bound, peace will prevail, and Christ will rule personally. The earth will be renewed, and Christ will prepare it for its eventual transformation into a celestial kingdom.
Mormons also believe that temple ordinances for the dead will continue throughout the Millennium. Living members will perform work on behalf of those who did not receive LDS ordinances in mortality.
Culturally, many Mormons prepare for the Millennium, and for times of crisis before it, by maintaining long-term food storage. LDS leaders have encouraged members to keep at least a year’s supply of food and essentials, reflecting both practical self-reliance and spiritual readiness for Christ’s return.
