In Mormonism, Jehovah is understood to be the premortal Jesus Christ. Mormons teach that while on earth, Jesus was known as Jesus, in the Old Testament, he was Jehovah, acting under the direction of Heavenly Father (Elohim). This distinction is emphasized in LDS temple ceremonies and scripture study.
This differs from biblical Christianity, which identifies Jehovah (or Yahweh) as the one true God — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit together. Christians confess that Jesus is fully God, united with the Father and the Spirit, rather than a separate being under the Father’s authority. Also see: Elohim.
