Firstborn - Truth in Love Ministry

Dictionary of Mormonese

Firstborn

A title for Jesus Christ in Mormonism, understood to mean that he was the first spirit child of Heavenly Father and Heavenly Mother in the premortal existence. As the eldest of God’s spirit children, Jesus is viewed as the elder brother of all humankind.

This interpretation differs from biblical Christianity, which uses the title Firstborn to describe Christ’s preeminence and authority over all creation (Colossians 1:15-18), not a literal birth order among spirit siblings. Also see: Only Begotten Son.
