Elijah

In Mormonism, Elijah is believed to hold the sealing power of the Melchizedek Priesthood, the authority that binds families together for eternity. According to LDS teaching, Elijah appeared to Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery in the Kirtland Temple in 1836, fulfilling the prophecy of Malachi 4:5–6. In that vision, he is said to have conferred the priesthood keys of sealing upon them (Doctrine and Covenants 110:13–16).

This sealing authority is considered central to temple worship, especially the performance of ordinances for the dead and the eternal linking of families. Elijah’s role is frequently emphasized in LDS teachings about the temple and is regarded as essential to God’s plan of salvation for all generations.
