The Relief Society is the women’s organization of the LDS Church. It was founded in 1842 under Joseph Smith and is one of the largest women’s organizations in the world. Its stated purpose is to increase faith, strengthen families, and provide relief to those in need.
All women age 18 and older are members, and weekly Relief Society meetings are held during the regular Sunday block of church meetings. Activities may include lessons, service projects, and social gatherings. Leadership is provided by a general Relief Society president at church headquarters and local presidencies in each congregation.
