In Mormonism, eternal progression is the belief that human beings can continue to grow, advance, and become more like God after this life. It is closely connected to the idea that God himself was once mortal and progressed to godhood, and that faithful men and women may follow the same path.
Eternal progression is tied to temple covenants, celestial marriage, and exaltation in the Celestial Kingdom. Those who qualify for this highest level of salvation are believed to continue learning, creating, and having spirit children, thereby expanding their glory eternally.
Biblical Christianity teaches that believers are perfected by God’s grace and made fully complete in Christ. Our eternal life is not about advancing toward godhood but about forever rejoicing in the presence of the one true God. While believers will continue to grow in joy, worship, and understanding of God’s greatness, our standing before him is already complete and secure because of Jesus’ finished work (1 John 3:2; Colossians 2:10). Eternal life is not a process of becoming divine—it is the gift of being with God, glorified and satisfied in him forever..
