In Mormonism, the word damn or damnation is usually understood as a state of being stopped in one’s eternal progression rather than eternal punishment in hell. Someone who is “damned” may still inherit a degree of glory but is cut off from the highest blessings of exaltation, such as living in God’s presence or having an eternal family.
In Biblical Christianity, damnation refers to eternal separation from God and suffering under his judgment, with no future progression or glory.
