Ex-Mormon Stories: Tiana

Tiana was born and raised in a practicing Mormon family.  After experiencing loneliness and judgment in the church because of an experience in her life, she began to question things.

A Be Ye Perfect social media post caught her attention and prompted Tiana to reach out to our ministry.

As Tiana began to read the Bible and the book God—The Ultimate Humanitarian, she learned about God’s amazing love and forgiveness. She discovered the gift of God’s grace.

Now instead of fulfilling a list of conditions, she trusts in what Jesus has done for her and is eager to share her story of God’s grace.

What was her experience like in the temple? What does it mean to be disfellowshipped?

What were her “wow” moments as she learned of God’s great love for her? What advice does Tiana give Christians for better loving our LDS and ex-LDS friends?

“I never felt forgiven in the Mormon church. The whole LDS repentance process didn’t turn me toward Jesus; it turned me away from Jesus. I lost hope and thought it was too hard and impossible.

Now I know that Jesus already did the work on the cross for me; he died for my sins. I don’t have to do any work for it. It’s just a gift, and I love it!”

Conversation Notes

We met Tiana through a social media ad on our Be Ye Perfect Facebook page. We encourage you to follow our page and join the conversation! You can be a witness from your phone or computer!

Tiana opened up about a painful time in her life. Learn what it means to be disfellowshipped in our Digital Dictionary of Mormonese.

The LDS process of repentance was anything but comforting. Instead, it brought a lot of pain and anxiety to Tiana. Learn how you can turn this stress point into a rest point in Christ:

Because of the LDS church’s emphasis that they are Christians, too, there is a shifting trend in the willingness of Mormons to read non-LDS materials. Consider inviting a missionary or loved one to study the Bible with you or to work through our God—The Ultimate Humanitarian Bible Study

Tiana explained how learning about the biblical Jesus and the Good News he brings wasn’t always the easiest. She had to wrestle with new truths. Learn why some Mormons react negatively to the message of free salvation.

Finally, please pray that Tiana’s husband and children come to know and rejoice in the same “no strings attached” grace that she now knows.

If you are praying for friends or family members who are still in Mormonism, we encourage you to check out our Friends and Family Program
