Should I give them Christian literature?
It’s common to wonder if you should give the missionaries a Christian book, tract, or printed material after a few visits. In most cases, we recommend holding off, at least at first.
Missionaries are usually instructed not to read non-LDS religious literature while on their mission. Many former missionaries have told us that, during their time in the field, they were trained to discard Christian materials without reading them, especially if they were given too early or without context.
That said, relationship matters. After several visits, if you’ve built a strong rapport and a foundation of trust, some missionaries may be more open to hearing what matters most to you. In those cases, offering a short Bible passage summary or asking if they’d be willing to read a small tract that shares what you believe about grace or Jesus may be welcomed.
We don’t suggest leading with printed materials, but you can reference them in conversation.
For example:
“There’s a short article that helped me understand what it means to trust in Jesus completely. Would it be okay if I shared that next time?”
If you have a strong relationship with your missionaries and would like some tracts to prompt meaningful conversations, Truth in Love Ministry has a few options for you. (Link)
These are designed to equip you, not necessarily to be handed off. They’re tools to help you know what to say and how to say it clearly and lovingly. We encourage you to use these resources to guide the conversation, not replace it.
Remember, the most powerful thing you can share is your own confidence in the gospel—with kindness, patience, and clarity. The Holy Spirit works through the words you speak.
