Our Approach: Build Bridges Not Barriers

Our approach differs from many others. We don’t focus on problems in LDS history or in their scriptures. Instead, we concentrate on showing how Jesus has done everything to save them. We do this by addressing their stress points and speaking their language.

We call our approach, Build Bridges Not Barriers. This highlights that it is relational, not confrontational. People frequently assume they can’t speak God’s word clearly and even boldly to Mormons if they want to maintain a relationship with them.

We, however, have found the direct opposite to be true. Most people respond positively when you take time to strengthen the relationship by listening carefully and responding lovingly. In fact, there’s a good chance they will be pleasantly surprised and willing, even eager, to get into a spiritual discussion with you. This has not just been our experience either. Thousands of people over the past twenty years have also experienced this.

In keeping with the bridge analogy, we talk about five pillars (principles) on which to build the bridge. They are explained on page 4 of the Friends & Family Course Workbook. You can download a copy of the workbook here.

We have created a video course with the same name, Build Bridges Not Barriers. It explains the five pillars in depth. It is foundational for everything which follows. If you haven’t watched it, we strongly encourage you to do so before anything else. There are also downloadable study guides. You can preview it here.
