Let the Bible Prove Itself
The best strategy is to let the Bible prove, by its powerful message, that it is God’s Word. Paul, for example, spent little time proving what he said was inspired. Rather, he shared the truth of God’s Word and let the Holy Spirit convict people of its inspired truthfulness. That has also been our experience.
This doesn’t mean you should never discuss the Bible’s inspiration and trustworthiness. Because Mormonism says many “plain and precious truths” have been removed from the Bible, there will come a time when you will probably have to show them all the evidence for its accurate transmission throughout the centuries.
We, however, haven’t found it very useful to have this conversation in the beginning. The Bible’s trustworthiness, or perceived lack of it, is not something which concerns them. In addition, a discussion about the Bible’s integrity speaks to the head more than to the heart and is not on their “feeling” wavelength.
