Get on their Wavelength
Christians are on the “Bible” wavelength. Our beliefs are founded on the Bible. We compare teachings with the Bible to determine their truthfulness. The Bible is the source of all God’s revelation.
Mormons are on the “feelings” wavelength. Revelation comes through feelings. They are regularly told to listen to “impressions” they feel. They judge truth by their feelings.
You can’t expect them to appreciate or be comfortable on your wavelength. Therefore, you will need to present biblical truth, as much as you can, in a way which is familiar to them. Rather than saying, “This is what the Bible says,” talk about what you know. (You know it because the Bible says so.) Rather than explaining a biblical truth in a clinical way, make it personal and talk about how it affects you. This fits in with being joyful and confident because of what God has done for you. At some point, you will need to emphasize this goes far beyond mere feelings by telling them that your feelings are based on the sure knowledge you have from the Bible.
Lesson Homework:
Brainstorm ways you can present biblical truth on the “feelings” wavelength. Write down your ideas.
