Praying Through Your Witnessing Journey

Pray, pray, pray!

“The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective”

James 5:16

Wrap your witnessing in prayer. Here are some suggestions on what to pray for:

#1 – That the Lord works on you to:

  • Increase your understanding of your loved one
  • Grant you patience and perseverance
  • Keep you calm in stressful situations
  • Respond with loving words
  • Help you remain thankful for all his blessings
  • Help you fight off discouragement and resentment
  • Increase your trust in his power and goodness
  • Keep you aware of his presence as you witness

#2 – That the Lord works through you so that:

  • You always reflect the joy and confidence of being a child of God
  • You model Christian love and forgiveness
  • Your words glorify him and penetrate the heart of your family member or friend

#3 – That the Lord works for you:

  • Giving you opportunities to share his word with your family members or friends
  • Having other Christians witness to them also
  • Bringing them to saving faith

We’ve developed a brief devotional, Preparing with Prayer, for you to use as you prepare for witnessing. This is found on page 7 of the Friends & Family workbook, available for download here

Also, enlist others to pray for you. They can pray much more meaningfully when you openly share with them. Pick a few mature Christian friends and regularly report what is happening both with you and your witnessing efforts. Many people have found it beneficial to send a brief weekly email to their prayer supporters, updating them.

We would love to pray for you as well! Our Prayer Partners are a committed team of Christians who pray for their brothers and sisters in Christ who are, like you, on the front lines, sharing Christ with their loved ones, friends, and others.

Lesson Homework:

  1. If you don’t already do it, establish a set time and place to pray. We are creatures of habit and setting a set time and place helps us pray more regularly.
  2. Enlist a prayer support team.
  3. Give your prayer support team weekly updates.
