Pray for Them in Their Presence

Many of us have the habit of telling people we will pray for them. That is well and good but often it is much more meaningful if you pray for them right then in their presence.

Here another word of caution needs to be sounded. Pray for them not with them. Praying with them gives the impression we have the same God. This is an impression we definitely don’t want to give. Granted, they might not see the somewhat subtle distinction between praying for and with them. But it’s as distinction God will see – and appreciate. One simple way to keep from praying with them is to avoid addressing God with words like “we” and “our.”  Instead talk in the first person: “I” or don’t use any pronouns; instead address the Lord directly.

A couple of other things to keep in mind. Mormons don’t pray to Jesus – only to Heavenly Father. A prayer addressed to Jesus might catch them off-guard. They do, however, end every prayer with the phrase “in Jesus’ name.” Depending on how much you want your prayer to sound different will determine how much you will want your prayer to follow their pattern.
