What does the Bible teach about the believer's response to faith?

The Bible teaches that through the power of God’s Word (the Bible), we are turned by the Holy Spirit from sin and a focus on ourselves towards a focus on God and his forgiving love.

Now, Christians respond freely to the gift of faith with a contrite heart, desiring to seek God’s will by following his loving commands, through works of faithful love, and by giving all glory to God.

I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.

John 15:5

What does Mormonism teach about the response to faith?

In Mormonism, conversion is marked by acceptance of the Mormon Plan of Salvation and commitment to progression.

To progress, Mormons must now increase focus on themselves through their worthiness, their works, their godhood, and their eventual glory — where they will receive the honor of becoming a god and the ability to walk up to God as an equal.

Faith involves doing all we can to bring about the things we hope and pray for.

Gospel Principles, Chapter 18: Faith in Jesus Christ

Unless a man will adhere to the doctrine and walk in faith, accepting the truth and observing the commandments as they have been given, it will be impossible for him to receive eternal life, no matter how much he may confess with his lips that Jesus is the Christ, or believe that his Father sent him into the world for the redemption of man. So James is right when he says the devils ‘believe and tremble,’ but they do not repent. So it is necessary, not merely that we believe, but that we repent, and in faith perform good works until the end; and then shall we receive the reward of the faithful and a place in the celestial kingdom of God.
