What does Mormonism teach about the need for continuing revelation?
Mormonism teaches that continuing revelation is needed so that Mormons know what is important today.
Revelation continues in the Church: the prophet receiving it for the Church; the president for his stake, his mission, or his quorum; the bishop for his ward; the father for his family; the individual for himself.

Why this Matters
It is immensely significant that right after he rose, Jesus pointed people to the Bible. By doing so, he showed that his resurrection didn’t nullify its importance. Instead, it confirmed it. And never once in his entire ministry did Jesus even hint that there were additional or lost scriptures. Throughout his ministry, he pointed exclusively to the Bible.
The Bible is the one and only true scripture. The Bible is where you will come to know the only true God and Jesus Christ. The Bible tells you the only way to obtain eternal life, namely, by trusting that Jesus did everything to make you right with God. Believe this, and you will spend eternity living with God.
