Personal worthiness is the underlying factor for receiving all the blessing from God including the forgiveness of sins. It is based on following the LDS gospel and carrying out all the commands and ordinances of the Church. Temporal blessings, or the lack thereof, are typically traced back to whether or not a Mormon has been worthy or valiant in their efforts. All spiritual and temporal blessings and gifts from God are attainable, but only if a Mormon has been worthy enough to receive them.
