Mormonism teaches that Lucifer is a spirit son of God who rebelled against Heavenly Father and the plan of salvation. Currently referred to as Satan, he and his followers were denied a physical body, cut off from God’s presence, and will never enter any of the kingdoms of glory. God allows Satan to tempt people away from righteousness as part of their mortality experience. Mormonism teaches that Satan directs most of his attention to Mormons who are attempting to eternally progress by following God’s plan of salvation.

“For example, [Satan] seeks to discredit the Savior and the priesthood, to cast doubt on the power of the Atonement, to counterfeit revelation, to distract us from the truth, and to contradict individual accountability.” (True to the Faith, p. 154)
