In Mormonism, since God knows that humans are weak in sin, He extends mercy in two ways. First, God sent His Son to satisfy the demands of justice by standing in our place to suffer the penalty of our sins. Jesus’ Atonement conquered physical death so all people will be resurrected and stand before Heavenly Father to be judged. Second, Mormonism teaches that God shows mercy by extending an opportunity to receive forgiveness of sins, but only through obedience.
